It's considered one of the company's best in their entire catalog, and a full remake on the Switch could sell boatloads if it were advertised and directed properly. It's possible the developers could make a brand new game following the events of Metroid Fusion on the GBA, since it's a common request among the Metroid community. However, because it's the fastest and easiest way to put a game out on the platform, Nintendo would be more likely to follow in the footsteps of Samus Returns and remake the original Super Metroid on the SNES. There are multiple angles from which the company could approach the development of a new 2D Metroid game. Not only would it continue to diversify the Switch library, but it would also help advertise Metroid Prime 4 by creating potential new fans of the series. The Switch has an impressive amount of Nintendo franchises available, such as Fire Emblem, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong Country, and Xenoblade, but there's currently still no Metroid title for the platform. Nintendo would benefit greatly from supporting the franchise in the meantime by releasing another 2D Metroid game on the Switch before Metroid Prime 4 releases. The game was received well and helped bring the 3DS to a close on a positive note. It was a remake of the second installment that simultaneously supported the 3DS during its closing years and kept Metroid fans satiated while they waited for the next mainline title. The lead announcement was obviously Metroid Prime 4 on the Switch, but the company also showed off Samus Returns on the Nintendo 3DS.
